Do you use sign language with your children? I dont know about you, but I have loved sign language since I was a pre teen when I was introduced to it by a new family that came to our church. I have never really gotten to use it much growing up, but still love the language. An article I read said this
"Research shows that sign language hastens speech development, reduces frustration in young children by giving them a means to express themselves before they know how to talk, increases parent-child bonding, and lets babies communicate vital information, such as if they are hurt, or hungry. A 2000 study funded by the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development, shows that young children who learn sign language speak sooner than other children (Glairon, 2003)."
I totally believe that...I taught signs to my son when he was a baby, and it was wonderful (but dont ask him to sign to you now...we have slacked a lot), but we will be getting back into this next school year with them. It is going to be their language for school, cant wait!! Its even great to know when your kids are older....I like to be able to sign to them across the gym at church etc. comes in handy at times. :)Sign Language will definately be part of our Daycare learning. Anything that helps the day go smoother!
